Terms of service

Last updated October 28, 2026

These terms cover your use of Whittle, a Shopify app that checks a store's search engine optimization, helps fix it and reports on the results. By installing Whittle you agree to them. If you don't agree, uninstall the app.

The service

Whittle reads your store's blog, products, collections, pages and redirects, scores them and suggests fixes. On paid plans it can apply those fixes for you: redirects, hidden posts, updated links, search titles and descriptions, product descriptions, alt text, product FAQs and collection intros. On the Growth and Scale plans it can also rewrite posts and write new drafts. Whittle changes your store when you choose to apply a fix, or, if you switch Autopilot to fill in blanks, when it adds missing alt text or a missing search title or description; it never replaces text you wrote without your click. It records every change so you can undo it from the Changes page.

Your decisions

Whittle's suggestions are recommendations. You decide what to apply, and you are responsible for the content of your store. Search rankings depend on many things outside Whittle's control, so Whittle does not promise any particular ranking, traffic or sales result. Results reports compare the weeks before and after a change and are estimates, not proof of cause. Dollar values are estimates worked out from your own search clicks and orders, or from your average order and a typical conversion rate when there aren't enough orders, and are not a promise of income.

AI-written content

Whittle writes search titles, descriptions, product descriptions, alt text, FAQs, collection intros, drafts and rewrites with AI. AI can get things wrong, so read each one before you apply or publish it. Product descriptions flag any number or claim that wasn't in your existing product details, but you are responsible for checking that what your store says is true. New posts are saved hidden and rewrites only go live when you apply them, so you always have the final say over what your store publishes.

Plans and billing

The free plan includes the store and blog checks, the cleanup plan, keyword opportunities, results and a one-time AI visibility test. Paid plans are billed through Shopify at the price shown on the Plans page, monthly or yearly, after any free trial. Each store gets one free trial, which includes a starter allowance of AI work shown on the Plans page; starting the plan early unlocks the full allowance. AI work on each plan has monthly limits shown on the Plans page. Charges appear on your Shopify invoice, and you can cancel at any time from the Plans page or by uninstalling. Changes Whittle already made stay in place after you cancel, and you can still undo them. Product FAQs and Shop this post on your storefront, Autopilot, AI answer checks, rank tracking and alerts run while you're on a paid plan.

Third-party services

Whittle uses Google Search Console (only if you connect it), Anthropic's Claude API, DataForSEO keyword data and Resend for emails to you to run. Your use of those features is also subject to their terms. See the privacy policy for what is shared and why.

Data protection

When Whittle handles personal data about your customers or store visitors (for example, where an order's visit came from), it does so on your behalf and only to provide the features you use. Whittle processes the minimum data needed, never reads shopper names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses or payment details, never sells personal data, and keeps only totals rather than individual orders. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to what's needed to run the service, and the service providers named above receive only what each feature needs. Shopify's data requests (customer data requests, customer redaction and shop redaction) are honored, and everything is deleted after you uninstall as described in the privacy policy. If we ever learn of a breach affecting your store's data, we'll tell you without undue delay.

Acceptable use

Use Whittle only on stores you own or are authorized to manage, and don't try to interfere with the app or other merchants' data. The free grader reads only public pages; don't use it to overload a store or to get around its limits.

Availability and liability

Whittle is provided as is. We work to keep it available and accurate, but we can't guarantee it will be error free or always available. To the extent the law allows, Whittle's total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Whittle in the three months before the claim.

Ending service

You can stop using Whittle at any time by uninstalling it. When you uninstall, your data is deleted as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend accounts that misuse the app, and if we ever shut Whittle down we will give at least 30 days' notice.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
